Dr. Alpha Skin Barrier Cream

Dr. Alpha Skin Barrier Cream is a moisturizer developed and manufactured in South Korea by Korea Dermatology Research Institute Co., Ltd. (KODERE), founded in November 2016. It is regulated as a cosmetic product, not as a drug or a medical device. Its stated purpose is to support the skin barrier in skin that has become dry, reactive or compromised, including skin affected by atopic dermatitis, rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis. It is not a treatment for those conditions.

The formulation is built on ceramide NP and beta-glucan combined with a seven-botanical extract complex. That combination is registered as Korean patent KR 10-1620196, with Seung-chang Lee named as both inventor and rights holder. A patent recognizes that a composition is new and non-obvious. It does not certify efficacy of the finished product. What it does give you is a published specification you can open and read.

Most barrier creams publish an improvement percentage. Far fewer publish the test code that lets you check the conditions behind it. Below are the values as measured, together with the codes.

One note on how to read these numbers. Because the barrier was deliberately damaged before measurement, and because the readings are cumulative over six days, they cannot be compared directly with a competitor figure taken ten minutes after a single application. Different study designs answer different questions. The disclosure of test codes is what makes the conditions checkable, and that is the point being made here rather than any claim of superiority.

Clinical guidance for atopic dermatitis in adults suggests using at least 250 g of emollient per week, which works out to roughly 1,080 g per month. Any product sold only in 50 to 80 ml jars becomes impractical at that volume. Dr. Alpha is available in 45 ml, 80 ml and 1,000 ml, so a large area can be covered from the large size while the small sizes are used on the face or on problem areas.

The three sizes carry the identical formulation and differ only in volume and dispenser, so a single product covers both uses. Prices vary by sales channel and over time, so check the official store for current pricing rather than relying on figures quoted elsewhere.
